The Product
Family OS is a mobile-first family application that uses structured AI workflows to help organize everyday life — from shopping lists and meal planning to appointments and shared tasks. The core idea: a single place where the family can coordinate without scattered apps and group chats.
AI integration is intentional and scoped: it assists with suggestions, categorization, and scheduling — but the family stays in control of every decision. No black-box automation.

Engineering
The backend is a Node.js/Express API with TypeScript, using Drizzle ORM against PostgreSQL with pgvector for semantic search and AI context. OpenAI integration powers structured workflows — suggestions, smart categorization, and natural-language task parsing.
The frontend is built with React and TypeScript, optimized for mobile-first usage. The entire stack is containerized with Docker Compose for consistent local development and deployment.
